My Classroom

I am much more of a teaching blog lurker than I am a contributor, but today I have so much to share.  I am fortunate enough to work at Monarch School, San Diego's unique public school that exclusively serves children impacted by homelessness.  I teach the most incredible second and third graders on the planet.  For the past three years I have taught my combined class in a small converted cafe space, but today was our first day of school in a brand new beautiful campus.

It is so rare for a teacher to have a blank canvas-a new classroom to set up, decorate, and transform  into your very own utopian learning environment.  This week I've had the privilege to do just that.  With the help of a handful of amazing volunteers I was able to set up my nautical themed classroom.  The idea was inspired by the red and blue paint scheme of the room, my students' interest in the ocean, and my New England roots.  My photography skills are sub-par, but check this place out!  I'm thrilled with how it turned out.
